Nepal’s outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara arrested for rape



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Sunday on the charge of rape. A police team under the command of DSP Durgaraj Regmi at Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor arrested him.

According to police, Mahara was arrested from Speaker’s official residence in Baluwatar after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.

He will be kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Durbar.

Earlier today, a single bench of Judge Brajesh Pyakurel had issued the warrant paving the way for the law enforcement agency to arrest the outgoing Speaker.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the police against Mahara on Friday for attempting to rape her.

Mahara had resigned from the post following the accusation.
