PATNA: Daring thieves in India’s Bihar state scribbled words of praise about a landlord’s wife — using a pink-colored lipstick on a mirror — before walking away with valuables worth millions early on Monday.
Police said the thieves, believed to be five or six in number, broke into the home of businessman Paritosh Sinha, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in the state capital Patna, after midnight.
During a two-hour stealing spree at the house, the suspects ransacked every corner and collected valuables worth around Rs5 million.
Police believe they may have used a four-wheel-drive vehicle to carry away the valuables.
However, the suspects took time off stealing to write words of praise for the landlady, and say a big “thank you” to her.
“Bhabhiji [term of respect], you are so good…Thank you,” the thieves wrote in pink lipstick on the mirror of the dressing table in her bedroom before fleeing the scene.
Reports said they also feasted on sweets stored in the freezer during their time in the house.
The family was away when the miscreants targeted the house.
Soon after getting information, the homeowner rushed back to his home in Patna and registered a case with the local police.
“The miscreants collected every valuable item kept in the house and fled. It appears they had come in a four-wheeler to carry the looted goods,” businessman Sinha told the media on Monday.
According to him, the thieves also carried with them the DVR of the CCTV cameras installed at the house while fleeing the scene to escape being identified.
The businessman had gone to his native village to celebrate the “Chhath puja” festival when the thieves targeted his house. “Chhath” is a Hindu Vedic festival historically native to the Indian subcontinent, more especially the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, and is celebrated to thank the Sun for bestowing the bounties of life on the Earth and fulfilling particular wishes.
