KATHMANDU: Nepal is taking on Kuwait in its first match of FIFA World Cup 2020 and Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers on Thursday.

The match is scheduled to begin at 10:45 am (local time) at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait today.

Nepali national football team left for Kuwait on Sunday to play tough team Kuwait which is 10 places ahead of Nepal in the FIFA ranking. Nepal is in the 166th position.

“Kuwait is, of course, stronger than Nepal. Kuwaiti players are more experienced than Nepali players. But Nepal had performed well in the friendly match held in March with Kuwait. If Nepal demonstrated the same spirit today, it will exert pressure on Kuwait,” said Captain Biraj Maharjan.

Nepal has played a total of six games with Kuwait, of which Nepal lost five games and drew one.

Nepal is drawn in Group ‘B’ of the Qualifiers along with Kuwait, Jordan, Taiwan and Australia. Nepal will take on Taiwan for its second match on September 10 in the round-robin league to be played under home-and-away format.
