Monsoon-induced disasters claim 1,611 in five yrs

KATHMANDU: As many as 1,611 people have died in the last five years due to monsoon-induced natural disasters in the country. Monsoon-induced disasters have caused a heavy loss of lives and properties.

According to the data maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs, landslides killed highest 546 people in the last five years.

Similarly, a total of 479 people died due to lightning, floods killed 403, high altitude 69, windstorm 68 and heavy rains killed 46 people during the period.

Given the data mentioned above as many as 400 died in a year in average.
