NC criticizes govt of portraying President as queen of Great Britain

Dubs policies and programs as “hollow”

KATHMANDU: Dubbing the government’s policies and program as “hollow”, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba lambasted the government of deceiving the people once again in the pretext of prosperity.

NC supremo Deuba came down heavily on the government of failing on all fronts, including tarnishing Nepal’s image in the international arena, dragging the President into controversy, among others.

Addressing the House of Representatives today, he sniffed sarcasm saying, “The government has dragged the President into controversy by portraying her as the queen of Great Britain.”

“I wouldn’t hesitate to say that the government has failed on all aspects,” Deuba said while referring to what he said ‘immature and controversial episodes’ such as the Venezuela political crisis, the ‘Holy Wine’ episode, among others.

Deuba also raised the issues of the sky-rocketing market price, unemployment problem, rampant corruption, weak law, and order situation, among others.

Intervention in bureaucracy has crossed the limits resulting in diminishing the morale of civil servants, however, the government keeps on disseminating devious messages to the people, the NC President said.

Conflict-victims are waiting for justice, and the government, Deuba argued, seems least bothered to address their demands.

Deuba also lambasted the government of failing to expedite the big projects such as Budi Gandaki, Melamchi Drinking Water Project, which he claimed are in limbo.

“Where are those commitments made by the government gone?” Deuba queried reminding the government of its commitment on various aspects, including addressing the unemployment problem, controlling corruption and market price, among others.

Deuba also raised the issue of Nirmala Pant’s rape and murder case while criticizing the government of failing to bring the murderers to book.

He also ridiculed Prime Minister K P Oli of reiterating his futile commitments and hollow accomplishments. “Let me remind the Prime Minister that Nepal had a steamer during the Rana regime,” he said.
