Germany pledges 1.5 billion grant assistance for Nepal



KATHMANDU:  German Ambassador to Nepal Roland Schaefer called on Minister for Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun on Monday.

In a meeting, Minister Pun thanked the German government for its tenacious and laudable support in the field of energy, transmission line, and alternative energy.

“Reinstating that solar and mini-grid are in the priority of the government’, Pun added: “The government aims to hike the  public access  to clean energy through renewable energy  and make it 12 percent in the coming three years.”

He stated that the conducive support coming from the German government would be pivotal in materializing the government’s program of providing electricity to all.

Likewise, Ambassador Sheifer said that his government is planning to provide the support worth Rs 1.5 billion to help Nepal for materializing its vision.

Minister Pun believed that German support would help Nepal to expand clean energy in the Himalayan and hilly regions.

Minister Pun and the Ambassador exchanged their views on other projects including the German government’s support in the alternative energy and the Tanahun Hydroelectricity Project.
