Update: Death toll climbs to 13 in Sunkoshi bus plunge

KATHMANDU: The death toll in Sunkoshi bus accident has reached 13, according to Sindhupalchowk police.

The accident occurred when a bus (Ba 2 Kha 7245) carrying more than 40 passengers veered off the road and plunged into Sunkoshi River at Sukute of Sindhupalchowk district on Sunday afternoon.

Most of them died on the spot, police said. More than 25 have been injured in the accident, police said.

The ill-fated bus was heading toward Kathmandu from Magedeurali of Dolakha district.

According to District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Kafle, the casualties could be higher since the accident has been of big magnitude.

The critically injured passengers have been sent to Kathmandu while some are receiving treatment at Sindhu Sadabahar Hospital.

Police along with locals are carrying out rescue operations.
