KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli today said the government’s sole emphasis would be to promote mutual friendship with China.

Talking to journalists at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar today, PM Oli said his efforts would be to build multi-dimensional relations at the government to government and people to people level during the high-level visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping going to be held in mid-October.

“My focus would be to stress on further enhancing friendship between the two countries,” he told journalists adding, “Both sides would be benefited.”

The Prime Minister said the expectation of physical or monetary benefits is not an important issue in the high-level meeting between Nepal and China.

He expressed optimism that some positive results would be achieved after the meeting.

“The value of friendship is what is important,” PM Oli said adding that they would hold discussions on investment and trade and technology transfer.

According to him, Chinese President Xi’s visit to Nepal would be extremely successful adding that the government has paid more attention to international relations based on national interest, international responsibility, and justice.

He went on to add that Nepal has now begun to exercise its autonomy independently.

“Be assured, Nepal will never bow down or tilt to any side,” PM Oli said adding that the government is endeavoring towards making Nepal land-linked, sea-linked, air-linked and communications-linked from a land-locked country.

He further claimed that Nepal’s relations in recent times has become reliable, cordial, stronger, and has reached a new height with its neighbors.

“Nepal’s international relations, too, has been raised,” he asserted saying that Nepal will stand on its own independent basic policy.

“Let me reiterated that Nepal does not get swayed for short term gains,” PM Oli said adding, “The government will work for national interest, stick to our sovereignty, peace, world fraternity, the UN Charter, policy of just world system, non-alignment movement and Panchasheel (the five principles of peaceful coexistence).”
