SC stays Nepal Olympic Committee’s elections

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday stayed the elections of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) slated for Friday.

Responding to a writ filed by NOC Work Execution Committee member Kamal Bahadur Chitrakar, a single bench of Justice Tanka Bahadur Moktan issued the interim order ordering not to hold the polls for the time being.

Chitrakar had moved the apex court filing the writ naming the so-called NOC Chairman Jeevanram Shrestha as a defendant after the latter called for the polls.

A joint bench of the then Justice (later Chief Justice) Khilraj Regmi and Justice Prakash Wosti had declared the Shrestha-led committee illegal on October 4, 2018. Thus, he doesn’t have rights to call for the polls, Chitrakar has argued in the writ.

Responding to the writ, the court also issued a show-cause notice in the name of the defendant and asked both defendant and plaintiff to become present before the court for further discussion on Sunday.
