KABUL: A Taliban vehicle bomb close to a housing compound occupied by international organizations in Kabul, the Afghan capital killed at least 16 people and wounded 119, officials have said.

The blast shook buildings several kilometers away, international media reports have said. The incident occurred just as Zalmay Khalilzad, the special U.S. envoy for peace in Afghanistan, was working on a draft accord with the insurgent movement in an interview.

Nasrat Rahimi, the country’s Interior Ministry Spokesman said that the blast was caused by a tractor packed with explosives.

According to him, more than 400 foreign nationals have been evacuated from the heavily protected site. (Agencies)
