Congress cadre attempts suicide to stop Rahul from quitting

NEW DELHI: A cadre of Indian Congress allegedly attempted suicide in India’s capital New Delhi in a bid to stop Rahul Gandhi from resigning from the party’s top post.

The Congress party does not want party chief Gandhi to step down. Rahul Gandhi, however, said he is quitting.

A party cadre tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a tree outside the party office in New Delhi, Indian media reports have said.

He said Rahul Gandhi has to withdraw his decision of resignation. “Else I will definitely hang myself,” the party worker said.

Several Congress leaders have been sitting on an indefinite strike asking Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his decision. (Agencies)
