NEW DELHI: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a severe heat wave for the next 48 hours across north India, Indian media reports have said.

The IMD issued an alert on Sunday saying that the heat wave is likely to prevail over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It has also warned of a heat wave in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, and south Uttar Pradesh during the 24 hours.

A heat wave is announced when the maximum temperature rises above 45 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days, reports have said.

According to IMD, thunderstorm and rain accompanied by gusty wind are likely to occur in Lucknow and adjoining areas. (Agencies)
