Cyclone Fani: Over 8 lakh people evacuated in Odisha

ODISHA: Over 8 lakh people in coastal districts of Odisha have been evacuated as the Indian state of Odisha braces for cyclone Fani, Indian media reported.

Security forces are on high alert, and educational institutions have been shut.

Authorities warn Cyclone Fani, which has now intensified into an ‘extreme severe cyclonic’, is expected to affect in the coastal areas of Odisha on Friday.

The cyclone is likely to move north-eastwards on May 3 with a maximum wind speed of 170-180 kmph, authorities have said.

Meanwhile, at least 103 trains have been cancelled in the state and elsewhere. (Agencies)
