JC recommends 5 justices to SC, 17 to HC



KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Judicial Council (JC) held on Tuesday recommended five justices to the vacant posts of the Supreme Court of Nepal.

The meeting recommended Prakash Dhungana, Susmalata Dhungana, Kumar Regmi, Hari Phuyal and Manoj Sharma as justices to the apex court. Five posts of justices had been lying vacant in the SC since a long time.

Dhungana among those recommended is the chief judge of High Court Patan while Mathema is chief judge of High Court Surkhet.

Similarly, Phuyal is former Attorney General who is recommended representing legal practitioners. He had been appointed as the Attorney General during the previous tenure of KP Oli as the prime minister.

The recommended justices will officially take charge as the SC justices once hey undergo a parliamentary hearing and take oath of office and secrecy from the president.

Likewise, the JC has recommended 17 individuals to the posts of High Court judges.

Among those recommended include three from Special Class officers of the Government of Nepal under Justice Service, one from former additional judge of appellate court (past), six from district judges and seven representing legal practitioners.
