KATHMANDU: A bail hearing has been scheduled for outgoing House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Friday.

Mahara’s statement is recorded before the process of bail hearing will start.

After hearing the case, the court will determine whether or not to allow Mahara to post bail and be released from jail for the duration of his trial.

A rape case yesterday was filed at Kathmandu District Court against Mahara demanding seven and a half years imprisonment. However, the hearing could not take place due to lack of time and preparation.

The District Attorney Office, Kathmandu filed a case demanding a maximum of five years in jail for rape and an additional two and a half years imprisonment for being involved in crime while being seated at a high-ranking post.

Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping Roshani Shahi, a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.
