Police begin probe into allegation against Speaker Mahara

KATHMANDU: Police have begun an investigation into the allegation of sexual assault against Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

Police have recovered evidence from the room of the alleged victim by taking the incident site ‘under control.’

“For now, beer bottle, broken power glass and glasses among others have been recovered,” Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu said.

Police stated they have started a forensic test of the recovered evidence, adding they have also retrieved CCTV footage of the area.

A woman employed at Parliament Secretariat had accused Mahara of sexually assaulting her in her rented room in Tinkune on Sunday evening.

Mahara has resigned following accusations of the sexual assault.
