Ruling NCP top-brass ‘suggests’ Speaker Mahara to step down

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has concluded that Speaker of the Federal Parliament Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who has been alleged of sexual assault and harassment, stepped down.

A meeting of the NCP top brass held at the Prime Minister K P Oli’s official residence at Baluwatar has suggested it would be judicious for Speaker Mahara to step down on moral grounds.

Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister K P Oli have concluded that stepping down from the post of Speaker would be a ‘wise decision’.

“Both the chairman, Oli and Dahal, have reached to a conclusion that Speaker Mahara should resign on moral grounds,” a Baluwatar source told Khabarhub.

Meanwhile, the party is holding an emergency meeting of the party secretariat soon to discuss the issue.
