NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday designated Masood Azhar, Chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief as a global terrorist, media reports said.

Syed Akbaruddin, India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, confirmed the development saying that Masood Azhar has been designated as a terrorist in UN Sanctions list.

Masood is the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) that carried out a suicide bombing in February killing 40 troops in the Indian-administered Kashmir.

Azhar will now be subject to a travel ban and an assets freeze.
