Landslide sweeps away three houses in Sankhuwasabha

A landslide in Koktima village, located in Khandbari Municipality-11 of Sankhuwasabha district, swept away three houses, injuring one person. The incident occurred amidst heavy rainfall last night. The affected houses belong to Mani Prasad Rai, Ram Prasad Rai, and Dil Bahadur Rai, according to Acting Chief of Police Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane of the District Police Office. Among them, Mani Prasad Rai sustained injuries in the landslide. Following the displacement caused by the landslide, the affected individuals are seeking shelter in neighboring houses. Binod Subba Gurung, the Chairman of Ward 4, disclosed that four houses in Khandbari-4 Sekaha were displaced due to landslides. Additionally, police warned of the high risk of landslides for five houses in Chichila Rural Municipality 1 and 2.

Gold price remains stagnant today

The price of gold remained stagnant in the Nepali market today. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold is fixed at Rs 146,000 per tola, while standard gold is traded at Rs 140,900 per tola. Engineer of Lumbini Development Trust sentenced to six years for corruption

Saroj Bhattarai, an engineer with the Lumbini Development Trust, has been sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction in a corruption case. The Special Court issued the full verdict today. Bhattarai was initially convicted on June 6. In addition to his prison sentence, the court has ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 8,000,000. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed the case against Bhattarai, accusing him of illegally amassing wealth.

Kathmandu’s temperature to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius today

The temperature in Kathmandu today is likely to stand between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius today. It will take a few more days for the monsoon to arrive, according to a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Govinda Jha. He said scattered rainfall is likely to occur at some places in the Kathmandu Valley this afternoon due to the influence of the local wind. Presently, there is an influence of the monsoon system in the eastern part of the country.

Taplejung floods: Bridges and roads washed away

Nepal’s eastern region has been witnessesing heavy rainfall as the monsoon season takes hold since Wednesday. The downpour has triggered flooding in the hill districts, including Taplejung. The Tamor Corridor road, linking the Phungling municipality and Phattanglung rural municipality, grapples with blockades due to flooding in Sinsawakhola, situated in Tapethok, Phattanglung-5 Tapethok. Rising waters claim several wooden bridges and roads, disrupting traffic flow. There are no reported human casualties, police said.

Heatwave forces extension of school closures in Birgunj

As scorching temperatures persist in the Tarai region, the Birgunj Metropolitan City has announced an additional three-day closure for schools. The decision comes amidst concerns over the prolonged heatwave’s impact on daily life. Chief Administrative Officer of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Matrika Bhattarai, stated that the extended summer holiday, from today until June 16, aims to safeguard children’s health amid escalating heat levels. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of further temperature spikes in the region, prompting the metropolis to take precautionary measures. Previously, the metropolis had instructed schools to conclude classes by 10:30 am to mitigate heat-related risks.

Government ready to lift TikTok ban if legal requirements met

The Nepalese government is currently working to bring TikTok, a popular social media platform, into compliance with Nepal’s legal framework. Speaking at the Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee meeting under the National Assembly, Communication Minister and government spokesperson Rekha Sharma stated that the government is willing to lift the ban on TikTok if it adheres to the country’s legal requirements. Minister Sharma clarified that the government’s issue is not with TikTok itself but with the content posted on the platform. She also mentioned that the government will soon introduce the Social Media Bill.

Hearing of case against Koshi government to continue on June 23

The hearing of the writ against the formation of the Koshi Province government will continue on June 23. The hearing, conducted by a full bench at the Supreme Court on Thursday, was rescheduled after it was not concluded. Former Chief Minister Kedar Karki filed the writ petition in the Supreme Court, arguing that the formation of the new government is unconstitutional according to sub-section (5) of Article 168 of the Constitution. The hearing was conducted by a full bench of judges Kumar Regmi, Nahakul Subedi, and Abdul Aziz Musalman. Previously, a bench comprising Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Balkrishna Dhakal directed that the writ be forwarded to the full bench for further hearing. Karki’s petition demands the removal of the current Chief Minister Hikmat Karki and his own reinstatement as Chief Minister.

JSP Nepal’s convention concludes, Chair Yadav tasked with appointing central committee members

The convention of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, held in Janakpur, concluded with the decision to assign Chairman Upendra Yadav the task of appointing central committee members and office bearers. Upendra Yadav was unanimously reinstated as the party Chairman on Wednesday. The party also decided to elect central committee members and office bearers through consensus, bypassing the election process. The convention aims to elect a 201-member central committee and 21 office bearers.

National ID Card mandatory for social security allowance

The government has decided to make the national identity card mandatory for receiving social security allowances, effective in 28 districts from July 16, following a recent Cabinet decision. This decision has led to an influx of people at district administration offices seeking ID cards. Yubraj Kattel, Director General at the National ID Card and Registration Department, stated that the requirement will also apply to the renewal of social security schemes in the 28 districts starting July 16. The districts implementing this provision are: Jhapa, Rautahat, Rupandehi, Morang, Sarlahi, Kapilvastu, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Dang, Udayapur, Bhaktapur, Banke, Saptari, Lalitpur, Bardiya, Siraha, Sindhuli, Surkhet, Dhanusha, Makwanpur, Kailali, Mahottari, Chitwan, Kanchanpur, Bara, Kaski, Parsa, and Tanahu.
