KATHMANDU: A Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) laboratory has been established at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on Monday.

The laboratory will be used for testing samples for COVID-19.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of the National Public Health Laboratory Dr. Runa Jha urged to operate the lab at full capacity to increase the scope of testing as the rate of coronavirus cases in the country has started to surge.

Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Dharma Kanta Baskota said that the lab has a capacity of testing 96 samples in a shift, adding that it was necessary to increase the scope of testing by operating the lab at full capacity.

A total of 17 PCR labs for coronavirus testing have come into operation across the country with this.
