Parliamentary Committee should scrutinize judge’s conduct: Amresh Kumar Singh

KATHMANDU: Independent Member of Parliament Amresh Kumar Singh has called for the formation of a parliamentary scrutiny committee to examine the conduct of judges.

Singh stressed that it is necessary for a parliamentary scrutiny committee to review the verdicts issued by judges from district courts to the Supreme Court.

Speaking at Sunday’s session of the House of Representatives, Singh emphasized that decisions made by the judiciary should be based on legal grounds, not on personal inclinations, as observed in recent judgments.

Referring to the recent suspension of Member of Parliament Tek Bahadur Gurung by the Supreme Court last Friday, Singh hinted, “The public issues pending for years are not being resolved. How can an issue of an individual get chance for hearing five times in a single month?”

He demanded that the mobile records of judges be monitored to determine on what basis decisions are being made, ensuring that the decision-making process of the judiciary complies with the constitution and the law.
