SEE begins today
The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) is beginning today (Thursday). Altogether 504,414 students from 10,806 schools are appearing in the exam that will run through April 9, informed Nandalal Poudel, SEE Exam Controller at the Board. Among the aspiring examinees, 250,772 are female and 253,627 were male and 15 were sexual and gender minorities. Altogether 2,064 exam centers have been set up for the exam with the highest in Kathmandu at 127 and lowest in Manang and Mustang district at one each, said Exam Controller Poudel.
8 DSPs recommended for promotion to SP
The Promotion Committee at the Nepal Police Head Office has recommended the promotion of eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) for promotion to Superintendent of Police (SP). Those DSPs who have been recommended include Dhekendra Khatiwada, Angur JC, Yadav Dhakal, Santosh Tamang, Niranjan Datt Bhatta, Shyambabu Olia, Rajan Limbu, and Binod Ghimire.
Gagan Thapa’s ‘Sambad Yatra’ kicks off from Nawalparasi
The second phase of Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa’s ‘Sambad Yatra’ commenced from Gaurigunj in Nawalparasi. Thapa inaugurated the journey by adorning the statue of BP Koirala with garlands at the local square this morning. Previously, the ‘Sambad Yatra’, which embarked from Mechi Bridge in Jhapa came to a halt upon reaching Gopigunj in Nawalparasi. According to Nepali Congress central member Ajay Babu Siwakoti, the second leg of the ‘Sambad Yatra’ will unfold over the next three days, traversing various locales of Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, and Banke. During this journey, Thapa will engage in dialogue with locals, attentively listening to their concerns.
RPP picks Laxmi Gurung as candidate for Ilam 2 by-election
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has announced Laxmi Gurung as its candidate for the upcoming House of Representatives by-election in Ilam 2. RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha stated that the decision to nominate Gurung was made during the party’s parliamentary committee meeting held on Thursday. Citing Gurung’s understanding of local geography and awareness of people’s issues, RPP expressed confidence in her candidacy.
Dr. Arzu Rana undergoes surgery in New Delhi
The surgery of Dr. Arzu Rana, the wife of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and a central member of the Nepali Congress, has been successfully completed. Dr. Rana underwent a successful hyperparathyroid surgery yesterday at Max Hospital Saket in New Delhi, India. As per her Secretariat, Dr. Rana’s health is showing improvement, and she will continue her recovery in the hospital for a while.
Nepal-Ireland T20 matches rescheduled by CAN after rain delay
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has adjusted the schedule for the T20 International matches between Nepal ‘A’ and Ireland Wolves following a rain delay on Thursday. The inaugural match, originally slated to take place at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, was canceled due to inclement weather. Nepal ‘A’ is geared up to face Ireland Wolves in a series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs. Notably, Nepal’s senior team recently emerged victorious in a two-day T20 series against Ireland Wolves.
National Assembly Vice Chairman Urmila Aryal resigns
Urmila Aryal, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, has tendered her resignation from her position. Aryal submitted her resignation letter to Chairman Narayan Dahal. Her decision comes amid reports of her discontent following the selection of Dahal as the Chairman by CPN (Maoist Center). Previously, the newly formed coalition had agreed to allocate the Chairman’s position to CPN (Maoist Center).
Nepal-India Electric Power Trade Agreement renewed for three months
The electric power trade agreement between Nepal and India has been extended for a three-month period. While the agreement is typically renewed annually, this time it has been prolonged for a shorter duration of three months. Under the terms of the renewed agreement, Nepal has the capacity to import 554 megawatts of electricity from India, as disclosed by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation.
Koshi Province tops list for violent crimes in Nepal
Among the seven provinces, Koshi Province has reported the highest number of violent crimes, as revealed by the annual progress report released by the Nepal Police. During an event on Thursday, Nepal Police disclosed that a total of 59,061 cases were filed in the past year, with 5,150 related to violent crimes such as murder, rape, murder after rape, human trafficking, and thefts. Alarmingly, Koshi Province alone accounted for 1,066 of these crimes, followed by 312 in Gandaki Province. Conversely, the lowest number of such crimes were recorded in Karnali Province.
