Prime Minister stresses Madhes development for national progress

DHANUSHA: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized that national development is inseparable from the development of Madhes, pledging continued efforts for the region’s advancement.

Speaking at a program organized after inaugurating the Kathal-Malhania Suspension Bridge, Prime Minister Dahal reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding irrigation in the Tarai to enhance agricultural productivity.

He also highlighted the prioritization of federalism implementation, mentioning imminent enforcement of key legislation such as the Provincial Police Act, Education Act, and Employees Act.

Acknowledging the significance of suspension bridges in Nepal’s diverse topography, Prime Minister Dahal affirmed the government’s focus on constructing such infrastructure nationwide.

The Kathal-Malhania suspension bridge, spanning 1,544 meters and costing approximately Rs. 288.5 million, connects Malhania in Siraha Municipality-13 to Kathal of Janakandini Rural Municipality-6.

With a load-bearing capacity of 540 metric tons, the bridge is expected to alleviate transportation challenges for residents of Dhanusha and Siraha, and potentially boost tourism in the two districts.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Dahal pledged support for the construction of river embankments along the Kamala River, recognizing the importance of flood mitigation measures.

As the inauguration marks a significant infrastructure addition, the local administration has urged users to exercise caution, particularly advising against high-speed driving of heavy-loaded vehicles and dragging bicycles and motorcycles while crossing the river.
