President Paudel and Qatar Emir discuss climate change impact and strengthening Nepal-Qatar relations

During a meeting at the Office of the President in Shital Niwas, President Ramchandra Paudel emphasized the need for Nepal and Qatar to deepen cooperation on shared concerns such as mitigating the impacts of climate change, protecting the Himalayas, preserving water sources, and maintaining environmental equilibrium.

Qatar Emir assures continued efforts for Hamas held hostage Bipin Joshi’s release

Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, currently visiting Nepal, has pledged further efforts for the release of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, abducted by Hamas militants in Israel last October. President Ramchandra Poudel urged the Emir during their meeting to support Bipin Joshi’s release. Nepal had previously appealed to Qatar regarding Joshi’s abduction, considering Qatar’s involvement in mediating a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Qatar Emir’s visit: Govt urged to seek pact for Bhairahawa-Qatar direct flights

Ahead of the Qatari Emir’s visit to Nepal, stakeholders are urging the government to initiate discussions for the operation of direct flights between Bhairahawa and Qatar from Gautam Buddha International Airport. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, is scheduled to arrive today for a two-day State Visit at the invitation of President Ramchandra Paudel.

The Qatar Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, commenced his two-day state visit to Nepal, arriving in Kathmandu to engage in bilateral discussions with President Ramchandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas, the official residence of the President of Nepal on Tuesday. Upon his arrival in Kathmandu today, the Qatar Emir proceeded directly to Sheetal Niwas from the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Ranjita Shrestha, Chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has asserted that Resham Chaudhary, who was convicted in the Tikapur murder case, does not meet the eligibility criteria to be a member of the party. Chaudhary filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court after the Election Commission refused to recognize him as the party’s Chairperson. During the court hearing on the case, the apex court sought responses from the defendants.

Six Nepali women cricketers leave for Malaysia

Six Nepali national women cricket players have set off to participate in the Super Women’s Cup in Malaysia. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) bid farewell to the national team captain Indu Barma, along with former captain Rubina Chhetri, Sita Rana Magar, Puja Mahato, Kavita Kunwar, and Ashmina Karmacharya on Monday. Malaysia Cricket Association revealed that this tournament will be held from April 24 to May 5.

Forest fires rampant in Baglung: 38 incidents recorded in two months

Baglung district has witnessed a staggering 38 incidents of forest fires in the past two months alone. Laxmi KC, spokesperson for the Division Forest Office of Baglung, reported that forest fires in Nisi Khola Rural Municipality and Dhorpatan Municipality remain uncontained. Currently, 15 forest fire incidents are still raging, covering over 1,200 hectares of land.

Mohan Gautam, a central member of the party, said that the meeting aims to discuss preparations for the upcoming convention, party organization, and the progress of people’s organizations. Notably, the selection procedure for convention representatives, ensuring a balanced representation across provinces, regions, and geography, will be a focal point of discussion.

Terai residents urged to remain safe from heat wave

The Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said that both minimum and maximum temperatures in most parts of the country have increased in the past few days resulting in hotter days. The Department has asked one and all to remain cautious since the maximum temperature in some parts of Lumbini, Madesh and Sudurpaschim provinces was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius or more. The Department has stated that excessive hot is likely for some days in Tarai area and has urged all to apply precautions or make needed preparations.
