UML Chair Oli says HoR dissolution was meant to retain NCP unity

CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has defended the dissolution of the parliament by the government led by him.

Addressing the UML Central Committee meeting that started in Kathmandu on Wednesday, former Prime Minister Oli said the House of Representatives was dissolved to save the then ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

He said that the parliament was dissolved after noticing a conspiracy to capture the party. UML chair Oli further specified that the parliament was dissolved after Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal tried to capture the then NCP.

SC issues show-cause notice on case concerning constitutional appointments

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice in the case against the amendment of the law related to the Constitutional Council (CC) and appointments made in accordance with it.

After completing the hearing on the petitions filed against the acts, the SC issued a show-cause notice in the name of the Office of the President, and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

NA committed to safeguarding Nepali people, sovereignty: CoAS Sharma

Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhu Ram Sharma said there have not been any changes in the principle, major policy, spirit, efficiency, role and activities of the Nepal Army despite a reform in its organizational structure.

Inaugurating the ex-armies’ conference organised at No 5 Brigade, Rajapur Barrack of the Nepal Army, the Army Chief said the NA is committed to safeguarding Nepali people and the country’s sovereignty.

NC’s Koirala faction holds meeting in Kathmandu

A meeting of the Shekhar Koirala-led faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has been held to discuss the faction’s agenda of the Central Working Committee meeting to be held on March 25.

According to a leader, the meeting held in Kathmandu was attended by available office bearers and central members of the faction.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the formation of ad hoc committees of the sister organizations.

NEPSE declines by 20.34 points Wednesday

The stock market, which had been rising for two consecutive days, declined by 20.34 points on Wednesday.

With Wednesday’s downtrend journey of the stock market, the NEPSE index has dropped to the point of 2630.36.

The Sensitive Index of Good and Strong Companies also declined by 4.22 points to 495.11.

The turnover has also decreased by Rs 2 billion as compared to yesterday.

Nepal imports petroleum products worth Rs 150 billion in eight months

Nepal imported diesel, petrol and LPG gas worth Rs 150 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2021/22.

According to the Department of Customs sources, Nepal imported diesel, petrol and LPG worth Rs 168.33 billion in eight months.

In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year 2020/21, diesel, petrol and LPG gas worth Rs 87.71 billion was imported to Nepal from India.

Compared to the previous year, in the first eight months of this year, Nepal has imported more than Rs 80.61 billion. The amount spent to import diesel, petrol and LPG gas last year has been spent to import diesel alone this time.

Diesel tops the list of the petroleum products imported in the first eight months of the current fiscal year. Nepal has already imported diesel worth Rs 87.83 by this time.

Gold price down by Rs 1,100 per tola

The price of the yellow metal has decreased by Rs 1,100 per tola in the Nepali market on Wednesday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of hallmark gold has been fixed at Rs 99,200 per tola.

The price of the yellow metal was traded at Rs 100,300 per tola on Tuesday.

Similarly, the price of worked gold is Rs 98,700 and silver Rs 1,370 per tola.

Government form committee to investigate Letang incident

A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident in which a policewoman was killed in Letang, Morang.

The Biratnagar-based Provincial Police Office has formed a committee headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary to investigate the incident.

The committee has been directed to investigate all aspects of the incident and find the culprits.

Norwegian Ambassador Dramdal calls on Energy Minister Bhusal

Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Torun Dramdal today paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar.

The meeting between the two focused on bilateral welfare and concerns of both Nepal and Norway.

Home Minister lauds APF role for country’s security

Home Minister Balkrishna Khand has said the establishment of the Armed Police Force (APF) has been a contribution to the enhancement of the country’s security.

Stating that the APF was competent and efficient, the Home Minister said the government highly acknowledged its presence, role and contribution during the COVID-19 response.

Bollywood Star Khan to perform in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Bollywood Actor Salman Khan is coming to Nepal on May 28 to perform at a program to be held at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.

The ODC Entertainment is bringing the Indian actor Khan to Nepal for the ‘Dabang Reloaded Tour’ to be held on May 28 at the Dasharath Stadium.

In the lead-up to the event, a virtual conversation was held between Khan and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Prem Bahadur Ale today.
