BANKE: The Narainapur Rural Municipality in Banke district is now the hotspot for the coronavirus as an individual lost his life while 113 others have got infected.

On Saturday alone, 27 more infected were added to the tally.

Coronavirus focal person of District Health Office, Banke Naresh Shrestha said that six people living in a Madrasa quarantine, 15 others at Nepal Rastriya Basic School in ward no. 3 in the rural municipality and six others staying in quarantine in ward no. 1 were tested positive for the virus.

The site that lies 35 km southeast of the city of Nepalgunj is close to Indian villages. For the first time, the area witnessed eight cases of coronavirus infection in the India returnee migrants on May 15. Within a week, the cases rose to 87.

On May 18, the rural municipality was sealed off after the whopping rise in the COVID-19 patients.

However, the locals’ carelessness is blamed for rising cases lately. The area has observed community transmission of the virus as the infected individuals were prevented from shifting to the isolation hospital and creating unnecessary crowds in the quarantine sites.

Focal person Shrestha shared that problems have been created to bring the infected ones in the isolation hospital due to their reluctance.

He said that 12 persons, who tested positive for the virus on Friday, were held at midnight on Friday while a person who fled the quarantine was taken under control on Saturday.

Shrestha blamed the locals for lack of cooperation with the health workers, security persons and ambulance drivers though the latter were working even by risking their lives. RSS
