Trekkers missing in Annapurna avalanche were uninsured

KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that six out of seven trekkers missing in Annapurna region had set on the trekking uninsured.

According to Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Pokhara Chapter, four Korean nationals and two Nepali guides didn’t have insurance coverage.

Chairman of TAAN, Pokhara Chapter Hari Bhujel informed that out of three Nepali guides, only one had got insured.

Four South Korean nationals have been identified as Jeong Pil Bong, Lee Min Su, Choi Hyowon and, Kim Sookja while three Nepalis have been identified as Saroj Pariyar, Chhiring Bhote and Min Bahadur Lama.

They are missing after being struck by an avalanche in northwest Nepal on January 17. The search for the missing trekkers is currently suspended.
