SC mandates affiliation for Durga Prasai’s B&C Medical College

The Supreme Court directed authorities to grant affiliation to Durga Prasai’s B&C Medical College in Birtamod, Jhapa on Monday. In their decision, a division bench of Supreme Court justices Dr. Kumar Chudal and Saranga Subedi instructed the authorities to provide affiliation to B&C Medical College. The SC directive mandates granting affiliation to the hospital upon completion of the affiliation process. While the government had issued an intention letter for affiliation, the process was halted due to Dr. Govinda KC’s agitation for medical education reform.

PM Dahal calls on AIIB to provide concessional loans to Nepal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to establish a policy for granting concessional loans to Nepal. During a courtesy meeting with a delegation led by RMP Rathnayake, the Director of AIIB, the Prime Minister highlighted Nepal’s ongoing need for concessional borrowing facilities, which AIIB currently lacks. He emphasized that the absence of such concessional financing options hinders Nepal’s access to AIIB funding. The Prime Minister urged the policymakers within AIIB to consider addressing this issue.

Parliamentary Committee summons Home Secretary, IGP, and former CIB Chief for discussion

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives has summoned Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Kunwar, and former Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) AIG Shyam Gyawali for discussion. According to the Chairman of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Ramhari Khatiwada, they have been called for discussion during Wednesday’s meeting.

NEPSE records double-digit decline on Monday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a double-digit decline, marking the first trading day of the week on Monday. Following the public holiday for the Holi festival, the stock market remained closed on Sunday. The NEPSE index witnessed a decrease of 17.01 points, closing at 2031.55 points today.

Nepal wins against Ireland Wolves by 6 wickets

Nepal secured a comfortable victory against Ireland Wolves by six wickets in the first match of the ongoing T20 series at TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. In the match held on Monday, Ireland Wolves set a target of 122 runs, which Nepal chased down in 16.1 overs, losing four wickets. Nepal’s triumph was led by opener Kushal Bhurtel, who remained unbeaten with 37 runs, smashing four boundaries in his 32-ball innings.

PM Dahal assures progress towards establishment of Shaktikhor industrial zone

Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has pledged to address the issue concerning the establishment of the Shaktikhor industrial corridor in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The PM made this pledge during his meeting with a delegation led by CPN-UML Chair KP Oli and comprising the Kalika municipality mayor in Chitwan and others today. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Constitutional Council meeting pushed to March 31, Auditor General appointment pending

The scheduled meeting of the Constitutional Council for Monday has been postponed until March 31. The meeting was initially set for 11 am today. The reason for the postponement has not been disclosed. According to sources at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the next meeting is rescheduled for March 31 at 11 am. The meeting was intended to recommend the appointment of the Auditor General, a position that has remained vacant for an extended period.

Unified Socialist will field its own candidate in by-elections: Chairman Nepal

CPN-Unified Socialist Party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has indicated preparations to nominate a candidate from the party for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for April 27. Addressing the elected district committee officials from the 10th district convention during a meeting in Kavre on Monday, Nepal addressed the swearing-in ceremony and stated that until cooperation is sought from other parties, the party would contest the elections alone.

Ilam-2 by-election: I don’t intend to contest; let youths step forward: Jhalanath Khanal

Senior leader of Unified Socialist Party, Jhalnath Khanal, has announced that he would not contest the by-election in Ilam-2 to be held on April 27. Talking to Khabarhub, Khanal stated his decision not to stand as a candidate but to endorse a youth candidate from his party. Khanal expressed, “I don’t intend to contest this time. Let the youth step forward. Our young comrades can take the lead.”

Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha reached Beijing, the capital of China, on Monday. He is currently on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China. RSP rejects UML’s election alliance proposal in Ilam-2

The prospect of political parties forging an alliance for the upcoming by-elections in Ilam-2 appears increasingly unlikely, with the ruling party, CPN- UML, finalizing its candidate on Sunday, while other parties gear up for the electoral fray. The by-elections will fill the vacancy left by the passing of UML MP Subhash Nembang. UML’s secretariat has nominated Nembang’s son, Suhang, as its candidate.

Five die in Achham tractor accident

Five people from the same ward died in a tractor accident in a tractor accident in Syudi of Achham. According to reports from the local police, the accident occurred on Monday morning, claiming the lives of five individuals and injuring three others. Police said that the accident involved a tractor, which was traveling from Melekh towards Sanfebagar, and occurred near Syudi on the rural road section.
