Special Court convicts Sunil Paudel in corruption case related to National Payment Gateway

The Special Court (SC) has found Sunil Paudel, the former Executive Director of the National Information Technology Center and Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, guilty in the corruption case associated with the National Payment Gateway. Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini and eight others have been acquitted in the same case. The SC bench, chaired by Justice Tek Narayan Kunwar and Judge Murari Babu Shrestha, pronounced Paudel guilty. According to SC Information Officer Yagya Narayan Regmi, the Court has set May 7 for sentencing Paudel and others found guilty.

Supreme Cooperative fraud scam: Deepesh Pun sent to jail for failure to pay Rs 400,000 bail

Son of former Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun, Deepesh Pun, arrested in the Supreme Cooperative scam, has been sent to jail for failing to deposit Rs 400,000 bailed amount. On Friday, the Rupandehi District Court had ordered Pun to deposit Rs 400,000 as bail. However, as he couldn’t deposit the bail amount, he has been sent to jail. According to Rupandehi District Court’s information officer Anant Raj Marasini, “Pun will be released after depositing the bail.”

Koshi Province Assembly passes resolution motion seeking CM Karki’s resignation

The Koshi province assembly endorsed a resolution motion in today’s meeting, with a majority of members supporting the motion presented by Koshi Province Assembly Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista for consideration. In accordance with Rule 70 (1) (C) of the Province Assembly Regulations, 2074 BS (first amendment), Rebatiraman Bhandari, the parliamentary party chief whip of CPN (UML), presented the resolution motion at the province assembly on Thursday.

Gandaki province assembly postponed indefinitely

The Gandaki Province Assembly meeting, scheduled for Friday, was postponed due to the absence of opposition parties. The inaugural session of the assembly was deferred as the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), continued its protest. NC has declared its refusal to participate in the provincial assembly meeting until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on the dispute concerning the validity of Chief Minister Khagaraj Adhikari.

Govt locks down Scout’s property illegally occupied by NC lawmaker Deepak Khadka

The government has padlocked Nepal Scout’s property, which has been illegally occupied for over five years by Nepali Congress Central Committee member and Member of Parliament Deepak Khadka. A team from the Kathmandu Administration’s Office, along with Nepal Police officials, sealed the land on Thursday evening that Khadka has been using unlawfully. Khadka allegedly forged the signatures of Nepal Scout officials and captured the land he had leased for 10 years in 2065 BS.

Police seize around 850 grams of gold from passenger at TIA

Police at Tribhuvan International Airport have intercepted approximately 850 grams of gold from an Indian woman. The gold, meticulously wrapped in plastic, was concealed inside the woman’s underwear, as reported by the authorities. An ongoing investigation into the matter is in progress to uncover further details.

Nepali Congress boycotts Gandaki Provincial Assembly meeting

The Nepali Congress parliamentary party in Gandaki Province has declared a boycott of the scheduled Gandaki Provincial Assembly meeting for this afternoon. The party’s decision stems from its stance that the current Chief Minister’s appointment is unconstitutional, a matter currently under Supreme Court review. Nepali Congress contends that convening the assembly meeting while the case remains sub-judice violates legal norms.

UAE secures spot in ACC Premier Cup finals defeating Nepal by six wickets

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stormed into the finals of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup after defeating Nepal by six wickets in a thrilling encounter on Friday. Winning the toss, UAE opted to bowl first, inviting Nepal to set the target. Nepal managed to put up a total of 119 runs, losing nine wickets in the process, with Sandeep Jora leading the charge with a crucial knock of 50 runs. Gulshan Jha and Karan KC contributed 20 and 17 runs respectively to the team’s total. In response to Nepal’s target, UAE chased down the modest total of 120 runs in the 18th over of the game.
