KATHMANDU: Kamirita Sherpa, renowned for his record-breaking 28 ascents of Mt. Everest, is now gearing up for his 29th climb to the summit.

Having conquered Everest an impressive 28 times before, Sherpa is once again preparing for the challenge, laying the groundwork for another extraordinary feat.

Acting as a guide for fellow climbers, Sherpa is poised to lead yet another expedition to Everest, showcasing his wealth of experience and expertise.

Despite his numerous successes on the world’s highest peak, Sherpa remains resolute in his commitment to continue scaling Everest, emphasizing that he still finds the challenge invigorating.

Born in Thame, Khumbu Pasanglhyamu Municipality, Solukhumbu, the 54-year-old Sherpa holds a distinguished place in mountaineering history as one of the most accomplished Everest climbers.

This spring season, a total of 390 climbers have been granted permission for Everest expeditions. However, Sherpa clarified that since assistant mountaineers are not required to obtain permission, the actual number of climbers may surpass this official figure.

As per the Department of Tourism, efforts to construct routes up to the fourth camp are currently underway.

If weather conditions remain favorable, climbing activities are expected to commence during the second week of May this year.
